Fröhe Weihnachten

Weihnachtsgruß

This greeting came with last year’s Christmas lights in Barcelona. They made a lovely mistake in the German version — it should be either “Frohe Weihnachten” or “Fröhliche Weihnachten”, but somehow they created a mixture of the two. (The missing “n” is my fault.) It makes me smile.
Diesen Weihnachtsgruß gab’s zur Weihnachtsbeleuchtung vom letzten Jahr in Barcelona. Haben sie nicht eine nette Mischung aus “Frohe Weihnachten” und “Fröhliche Weihnachten” hinbekommen? (Das fehlende “n” ist meine Schuld.)

Less happy was the situation on European airports in the snow-related chaos of last week, whereas my preferred idea of Christmas and airports was more like this… wish me luck, and all of those who still want to travel home!
Weniger nett war die Lage auf europäischen Flughäfen nach dem Schneechaos der letzten Tage, wo ich doch diese Weihnachts-Flughafen-Version viel schöner fände… drückt mir die Daumen, sowie allen anderen, die noch nach Hause fliegen wollen!

Already?

I can’t believe that Christmas is only two weeks away. Usually I am eagerly awaiting the season, but this year I’m not in the mood yet, somehow. While Germany is snow-covered and it was at least suitably cold here for a bit (not cold enough for snow, that’s rare), last weekend the temperatures jumped up 10°C (or almost 20°F), so it doesn’t even feel like winter outside. But the city has finally switched on the Christmas lights (below are those from El Raval this year), and I’ve managed to select a few presents. Maybe I’ll even bake some cookies on the weekend…

Kaum zu glauben, dass es nur noch zwei Wochen bis Weihnachten sind. Normalerweise kann ich es kaum abwarten, aber dieses Jahr ist noch keine Weihnachtsstimmung eingekehrt. Während Deutschland schneebedeckt ist und es hier eine Zeit lang auch immerhin kalt genug war (nicht für Schnee, das ist selten), gingen die Temperaturen letztes Wochenende plötzlich wieder 10°C hoch, so dass es sich noch nicht mal nach Winter anfühlt. Aber inzwischen hat die Stadt die Weihnachtsbeleuchtung eingeschaltet — unten die Lichter aus El Raval — und ich habe es geschafft, ein paar Geschenke auszusuchen. Vielleicht backe ich am Wochenende sogar Kekse…
